A Once-in-a-Generation Event – “Blessing of the Sun” Celebration at the Grist Mill with Chabad of Sudbury

At 8:00 AM on the morning of Wednesday, April 8, 2009, the Chabad Center of Sudbury will join Jewish communities around the world in celebrating a rare astronomical event, the sun’s return to the point of its creation.  To mark this milestone, the Chabad Center welcomes the public to participate in a unique and joyous gathering to recite the traditional “Blessing of the Sun.”

Putnam Chabad’s Rabbi Yisroel Freeman, points out that while there will be no obvious spectacle in the sky,  this “realignment” of space and time – occurring only once every 28 years, when the sun’s path relative to the Earth reaches its yearly starting point on Wednesday, the day of its creation as recorded in the Bible – is a unique and exciting opportunity “to rejoice in the life-giving role that G‑d has given the sun in the wonder and beauty of the natural world.”

With solar power an increasingly viable alternative to non-renewable energy sources, says Rabbi Freeman, “this once-in-a-generation event is timely and practical – for it reminds us that we are blessed with virtually unlimited power and potential, just waiting for us to tap into it.”

Everyone is invited to join in the “Blessing of the Sun” celebration, Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 8:00 AM at the Grist Mill in Sudbury which is adjacent to the Longfellow Wayside Inn, 72 Wayside Inn Rd. Sudbury, MA 01776. The ceremony lasts approximately 20 minutes.
