During our recent visit to Israel, among the many people we visited and spent time with, was a young family from the town of Shlomi in Northern Israel, who have had to flee their home due to the daily rocket barrages on their village and other towns. They have now been living for 11 months as refugees in a small hotel in Jerusalem, where we met them and saw how they are living.
Obviously this is a tremendous challenge for them and their family and everyone else in their community, and they are suffering in many ways, including in terms of their regular income. When they told me that their son was about to turn 13, we asked them about the Bar Mitzvah plans, and it turns out that even to make a simple celebration is a huge burden for them.
We confirmed some of the facts and the situation and pledged to help them, to help make this day special for this soon to be 13 year old, and his family, who although tremendously resilient, could certainly benefit, from being able to celebrate this special day.
The costs of the basics of making a small celebration for their family and friends, to rent a small space, catering, some music and a little more, is just over $3000. If you would like to help us make this happen as a community, for this young boy and his family, please donate below.
