
The Chabad Center of Sudbury invites you to an evening of Sephardic Music and History that will explore the beauty of Sephardic Liturgy & Music from a wealth of Sephardic Countries & Traditions. The evening which will feature a performance workshop covering Sephardi musical traditions and historical context, will be led by Dr Samuel Torjman Thomas, an artist scholar - ethnomusicologist and multi-instrumentalist (saxophone/clarinet, oud, nay, vocals, bendir) - whose performance and research work centers on North African, Middle Eastern, and Jazz traditions.
Explore traditional Jewish Music & Songs from the richness of the Syrian, Moroccan, Spanish & other traditions and journey away into an evening of history, music, and the inspiring journey of Sephardic Jewry. If you like music, or liturgy, or history, you will enjoy this memorable evening.

About Samuel Torjman Thomas, Ph.D
Dr. Samuel Torjman Thomas is an artist-scholar – ethnomusicologist and multi-instrumentalist (saxophone/clarinet, oud, nay, vocals, bendir) – whose performance and research work centers on North African, Middle Eastern, and jazz traditions. Dr. Torjman Thomas is a professor of music, interdisciplinary studies, and Sephardic Studies at the City University of New York (Hunter College, John Jay College, and Brooklyn College) and Montclair State University, lecturing on a range of topics including Muslim-Jewish intercultural exchange in music, philosophy, theology, and poetics, American popular music, jazz history and improvisation, and diaspora studies. Dr. Torjman Thomas is bandleader of the critically-acclaimed North African Jazz fusion project called ASEFA (ah-say-FAH) and artistic director of the New York Andalus Ensemble, a performance group devoted to reinvigorating the intercultural exchange inherent to the musical heritage of Spain and North Africa.
