"A Promise at Sobibor" Event Pictures & Report

Thursday, 19 May, 2011 - 2:38 pm

IMG_2545.JPGYesterday a large crowd of more than 130 people joined Mr. Philip Bialowitz to hear his lecture and presentation "A Promise at Sobibor". The large audience which included children, teens and adults were riveted, moved, and inspired as Philip described his experiences in Sobibor and during the war.

Philip described the revolt and how together with some 40 other Jews in the concentration camp they were able to kill the guards and escape into the forest. Once in the forest they joined the Partisans and continued the fight while trying to survive and live through each day.

IMG_2550.JPGPhilip spoke of his longing in the war to see an Allied bomber drop bombs on the camp even if it meant himself getting killed but at least the Concentration Camp would cease killing thousands each week. Philip spoke of the importance of not forgetting what happened, but even more important is what are we doing to make the world a better and brighter place.

At the end of the evening Philip signed copies of his book "A Promise at Sobibor" and spent time chatting with the audience. Philip commented on speaking in Sudbury "that it was one of the best and most engaged groups that he he had spoken too", and he added that "he looks forward to coming back again".

You can read more about the event over here and you can read more about Philip over here. Copies of his book are available on his website.
