THANK YOU RAMI SHERMAN FOR A POWERFUL EVENING!
At one point near the end of his powerful story, Rami turned to the crowd and asked a rhetorical question, "everyone knows the story, everyone has seen the movies and everyone has read the books, so what is it that pulls everyone together even on such a snowy night with dangerous road conditions, to hear this specific story?".
He then asked one lady in the front of the room what does she think. Debbie who had come all the way from Newton responded, "I am named after my grandmother who didn't survive the Holocaust as did none of my other grandparents, and nothing in the world would stop me driving even an hour in the snow, to meet someone like you who flew 4000 km to save his people who had once again been selected apart and marked for death".
This response was the sentiment that everyone felt in the room as they heard Rami's very powerful message and story. Rami described how Yoni Netanyahu told them all that if a soldier is shot, no one is allowed to stop, as every second counts to get to the hostages and save their lives. He also shared his emotions as he watched all the hostages go on to the plane and to head back to Israel.
Rami also described how he left to Entebbe as a Kibbutznik, a proud Israeli and as an officer in the IDF's Sayeret Matkal unit, but he flew back from Entebbe as a Jew, as the larger history and purpose and shared responsibility of our people, took on a new, larger and much more profound role in his life.
Thank you Rami for sharing these powerful words!
