2020 will no doubt be remembered as a year of great challenges and pain which has impacted everyone in different ways, some a lot more than others. Of course, it was also a time when good continued to happen in so many ways, when we saw a vaccine produced in the fastest ever time frames and when we witnessed humanity collaborating like never before to save lives.
On a local level, the dynamics were very similar with many experiencing tremendous challenges, some more than others, yet at the same time the spirit of community, care and compassion was present like never before.
With this in mind, we would like to say thank you to the 396 families and individuals who helped support the crucial work of Chabad of Sudbury in 2020, who helped us work together as a community to make challenging times a little easier and brighter for so many.
Thank you to the many dozens of you who stepped up to volunteer with shopping for the elderly, delivering masks and medicine, driving people to medical appointments, checking in on friends, giving tangible support to help struggling families, delivering meals and food, and so much more. Within the challenges of 2020, the actions and generosity of the community have been beyond inspiring and touching to witness, and have no doubt made our community stronger.
In addition thank G-d and with the help and participation of so many of you in 2020;
- 13 Bar & Bat Mitzvahs were held in person (with social distancing measures).
- Dozens of seniors had shopping, rides and assistance through volunteers in the community.
- Over 300 homes were visited (outdoors) and brought a dose of joy and love with both Shabbat Packages and Rosh Hashanah Packages
- Dozens of homebound seniors or struggling families received Thanksgiving Dinners
- Holiday Services continued to happen outdoors for hundreds of people.
- Over 100 online classes took place with participation ranging from 5 - 50 each time.
- Hundreds enjoyed creative socially distant holiday programs for Chanukah, Sukkot and more.
- Hebrew School continued in person and virtually for over 40 students.
- The community rallied together and became stronger during a very challenging time.
As we end 2020, on behalf of the Chabad Center of Sudbury we say thank you to each and every one of you for being a part of these efforts to make the world brighter and more connected, even during these challenging times.
G-d willing during the months ahead we will continue to overcome challenges and strengthen our community and soon be able to put the difficulties of this pandemic behind us.
With best wishes of good health and blessings to all.
Sincerely,
Rabbi Yisroel & Shayna Freeman
