SHABBAT CANDLESTICKS FROM THE HOLOCAUST MAKE THEIR WAY BACK TO A NEW HOME WHERE THEY CAN BE LIT ONCE AGAIN

Dan was born in 1940 in Holland, and he just came by ChabadSudbury to bring us these two Silver Candlesticks, which his mother had bought in an antique store in Holland shortly after the Second World War.

He recently realized that they have Hebrew words engraved on them "להדליק נר של שבת","to light the candle of Shabbat" (from the Shabbat Candle Lighting Blessing), and realized that maybe they had once belonged to a Jewish family in the Holocaust and may have been looted during the war.

As he realized this, he thought that it was time for these Candlesticks to return home to the Jewish community.

Thank you Dan. This was a very moving gesture.

We will use them to continue to bring the light of the Shabbat Candles into the world, that needs so much more light added to it.

As an aside, in the last 24 hours, three different people from three different towns have reached out to us about antisemitism that they have experienced in a school setting. Having Dan come by with this very moving gesture, is a reminder that light will always prevail.
