Winter storm doesn't deter the Sudbury Macabees

 Chanukah Night 1 2008 Snow Storm Dec 21 051.JPG

This past week the Chabad Center of Sudbury held multiple Chanukah Celebrations in the Sudbury area.

Our main Chanukah celebration this past Sunday Dec 21st took place in the middle of a vicious winter blizzard. People were suggesting that perhaps we should cancel the event since who would show up and the conditions are crazy. But canceling was not an option so we went ahead and set up for the event. Some 25 brave Sudbury Macabbees showed up at the Menorah Lighting at the Sudbury Town Hall despite the storm and provided our own Sudbury Chanukah Miracle and demonstrated the unbreakable Jewish spirit of determination in the face of adversity.

We shared a few Chanukah words with the crowd, enjoyed some great Chanukah refreshments such as Latke's, Donuts, and Chocolate Coins and proceeded to light the 9 foot Menorah. The Lighting itself was carried out by Rony Lipetz who bravely stood on the ladder as he battled the wind and snow in order to light the flames of the Menorah.

I would like to give a special thanks to Niv Lipetz for braving the storm and helping me erect the Menorah, to Jim Kelly of the town of Sudbury for his bravery in the storm in helping us setup and clearing the snow, and to the many others who helped make this event a truly unique and remarkable event.

Dozens of people joined us Sunday morning to witness a beautiful Chanukah performance by our Hebrew school students. Each class sang beautiful Chanukah songs and did various performances to entertain the assembled. Following the show the assembled divided up into two teams to play a great hi tech Chanukah game while they enjoyed Chanukah refreshments.
