In Memory of Harvey Alford

Tuesday, 25 July, 2023 - 6:15 pm

With great sadness we inform you of the passing of

Harvey Alford

Chevel Ben Chaim of blessed memory

Harvey had been a regular at Chabad of Sudbury for many years and took an active role in the Adult Education Courses, Shabbat Services and much more. Harvey was a big believer in helping bring Judaism to our youth and was very encouraging and supportive of the many teen and youth programs that are run by the Chabad Center of Sudbury.

At one point Harvey, together with his late wife Myrna, initiated Torah Study Classes that would rotate in people's homes in Newton and Sudbury which we were honored to be a part of.

Harvey was a very hard working person who loved his family dearly, and had an especially close relationship with his wife late wife Myrna with whom he was married for nearly 60 years.

On a personal note, I spent many meaningful hours with Harvey, in his office where I would visit and we would converse and lay Tefillin, or at JLI Retreats, or on the community trip to New York, Adult Ed Classes or Services or simply in conversation. He was always a pleasure to talk to, and the conversations were always meaningful and would connect with Judaism, his family history, the future of Judaism, and his deep passion and connection with Israel.

I clearly remember the moment many years back when we led a community trip to Crown Heights. Harvey and Myrna joined us along with two of their grandchildren and loved the trip. The highlight of the trip was when Harvey donned Tefillin together with his grandson at the Chabad HQ and tears rolled down his cheek. They were tears of fulfillment, connection, joy and happiness all at the same time.

I know I speak for many at the Chabad Center of Sudbury, when I say, we will miss Harvey and all of the goodness, loyalty and dedication to family, love of learning and commitment to Judaism and Israel that he represented.

May his memory be a blessing and may his family be comforted among the mourners of Zion & Jerusalem.

The funeral will take place on at Temple Reyim, 1860 Washington St., Newton, MA, on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at 10:30 am, following with interment at Adath Jeshurun Cemetery (Grove St., West Roxbury)

Shiva will take place at the homes of his children and you can see the schedule in the online obituary over here.
