Tomorrow evening, millions of Jewish people will be sitting down at a Passover Seder in homes, synagogues, community centers and so many other places around the world. From the largest Seders in the world on the hills of Nepal and the islands of Thailand, to the Seders being run by our Chabad friends in the middle of the war zone in Ukraine, and of course the length and breadth of Israel, to the homes and apartments of people in the greater Sudbury area, the sentiment and message will all be the same.
The songs of our tradition, interlaced with the hope filled stories of the Exodus and countless other painful and joyful events of our ancient and modern history, along with the powerful message of the Matzah, while being surrounded by family, friends or community, or with the knowledge that you are sharing this moment with millions of others in your family around the world, provide a powerful uplifting moment in our tradition and in our understanding of who we are and what we seek to convey to the next generation.
It reminds us of our calling and purpose as the Jewish people, it reminds us of our G-d given responsibilities for doing Mitzvot and making a better and kinder world, and it reminds us of the pain of suffering and what the joy of freedom and purpose can look like.
It is our hope and prayer that we walk away from the Seder imbued with the call to action that is inspired by this experience, so that next year in Jerusalem and all that it means, is something that becomes our calling and motivation as we move forward into the next few months.
We would also like to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who has been able to help support our efforts this Passover to reach many hundreds of children, families and so many others to bring the joy of Passover.
