THE JOURNEY OF A "YAD" FROM THE 1890'S THAT HAS A NEW HOME IN SUDBURY

Yad 2.jpgA few days ago our neighbor Susan Bistany told us that in her recent dealings with antiques she came across a unique item and wasn't sure what it was. Eventually after some research she realized that it was an antique "Yad" Torah pointer and what it was used for. Then and there she decided that she didn't want to sell this item and instead she would like to give to us to use at ChabadSudbury.
Today she came over and gifted it to us and explained to us what the numbers and symbols on the side mean. Susan explained to us that it is 840 Silver from Russia from the 1890's and that the gems in it were probably real too.
YAD 1.jpgFrom somewhere in the Shtetl in the 1890's to Sudbury in 2021, this Yad has had a remarkable journey of continuing to point to the words of the Torah and the messages that they contain.
Thank you Susan & Mitchel for gifting us this sentimental gift and for giving it a new home where it can continue it's purpose of pointing at the sacred words of the Torah and the messages that they contain and teach us.
Shabbat Shalom!
