A MESSAGE TO THE BOSTON COMMUNITY FROM THE PARENTS OF AGAM BERGER WHO IS STILL BEING HELD HOSTAGE WITH SO MANY OTHERS

Dear Friends,

WhatsApp Image 2024-05-30 at 4.39.01 PM.jpegIt is not often in life that you meet people, carrying so much pain of the unknown, who live with the knowledge that their 19 year old daughter is being held hostage deep underground in Gaza, yet carry their message with dignity, resilience, hope, faith, and an enduring message to others to do more.

Sitting with them and their children last night for two hours was something I will never forget. G-d willing at ChabadSudbury we will launch a special campaign of doing good deeds in her and the other hostages honor, which will both serve as a way of adding more light to the world, and also help r… Read More »

Nova Fest Survivor Daniel Vaknin Talk

Daniel Vaknin Photo.pngThank you Daniel Vaknin for coming to ChabadSudbury last night to share your painful yet powerful story of survival on Oct 7th and beyond and thank you to everyone else who joined us last night to hear his story of survival and what his journey has been like since.

A grandchild of Holocaust Survivors and with his own life shaped by their story, Daniel found himself facing a terrible reality on Oct 7th until ultimately taking shelter in the home of another 88 year old Holocaust Survivor.

Daniel lost 6 close friends and 70 others who he knew well, and has other friends who are hostages. Hearing his story of perseverance, healing, and what he does to uplift and help others heal, was very powerful.

A particular powerful moment occurred… Read More »

Memorial Day Message in Sudbury

Memorial Day 2024.pngIt is an honor to participate each year in Sudbury's Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony with an Invocation and a few words.

Honoring those who gave it all for America and the values that it represents, is humbling and something which I think is so important to do.

This year I shared the story of Master Sgt. Roddie Edmonds as I thought that his story and what he did, is something that is extra relevant this year.

79 years ago in Germany’s STALAG IXA Camp, where over 1000 US Soldiers were being held in captivity, the Nazi officer gave an order that all the Jews among them should stand outside their barracks for a special selection.

Everyone knew what that would mean for them…

Master Sgt. Roddie Edmonds of the 422nd Infantry Re… Read More »

JewQ Competition at Hebrew School

On Sunday, we held the annual JewQ competition for the oldest class of students. The JewQ program is one of the many fun and meaningful programs which we run in Hebrew School to expand the students knowledge of Judaism.

The students spent lots of time reviewing the material in their own time and joined together on Sunday for a fun day of competition and fun, together with many of the other students at the Hebrew School.

You can see a lot more pictures of this event over here.

The Hebrew School will continue to run until June 9th and is now starting to enroll for next year, and we are looking forward to welcoming multiple new families and students.

WHY DID THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ATTEND THE FUNERAL OF A HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR THEY DIDN'T EVEN KNOW

When a 95 year old Holocaust Survivor, Esther Greizer passed away this week, and left no descendants, her extended family were worried they wouldn't have 10 people at the funeral to show her her final respects and escort her on her final journey.

Although she married, she never merited to have children due to the cruel medical experiments done on her by the Nazis. As a result it looked like she was going to have almost no one there to remember her and accompany her on her final journey.

Yet the word got out, especially as it was Israel's Holocaust Remembrance Day.

When the funeral began, thousands of people she had never met from all walks of life, showed up to pay their respects to Esther and accompany her on her final jo… Read More »

Passover Recap

We hope you had an enjoyable holiday of Passover and had meaningful and uplifting Seders with family and friends.

Indeed it is a year with abundant challenges as we think of our brothers and sisters in Israel, the hostages, and the rise in antisemitism, yet despite that the faith and hope of the Seder night, reminded us all of the importance of being upbeat and joyous, even as we are in pain and acknowledge the very painful dynamics that are happening.

Seeing the new rise in dramatic antisemitism in the colleges over the last few days, is a reminder of just how important the Passover message of freedom, resilience, confidence and Jewish pride is in modern times.

At Chabad of Sudbury we enjoyed a big community Seder on the 1s… Read More »
