Moving Forward when Surrounded by Pain

On some days the new out of Israel can make you numb with pain.....

When twenty one young soldiers who were dads, sons and siblings, were killed in in Gaza in one day, what else could one even think about....

Each life was another world cut short, leaving so many loved ones grieving behind...

The Dreyfus Blood Libel charges are being repeated all over again, except for this time, it is the Hague at the World Court....

Sometimes it feels how is this going to end, we are being impacted and attacked on every front...

Thousands of years ago, the Jewish people faced a terrible dilemma as they escaped Egypt only to be ambushed and trapped several days later, with nowhere to run and hide. The roaring ocean was to their backs, the mighty Egypt… Read More »

Yakir & David & Seeing Despite the Darkness

Yakir & David were two study partners at a Yeshiva in Gush Etzion, who were reservists in the IDF, who were killed together in combat last week.

In a Podcast Lecture I was listening to, the speaker shared how he studied each day with Yakir Dexter's father, and had himself sat with Yakir for several hours just days before, to understand the dynamics of the moral and Halachic dynamics and challenges that the soldiers are coming across during this difficult battle.

Every innocent life lost is a tragedy, but Israel has been left with no choice but to get ri… Read More »

In Loving Memory of Adi Baharav Rabinowitz who was killed on Oct 7th

Adi Baharav Rabinowitz was someone who would literally drop everything, in order to save a life. He did it more than once, even when it meant putting himself in mortal danger, as saving and preserving lives was one of the core values that he lived by.

I was fortunate to have met Adi several years ago, and since that time, Adi became a close friend, and someone I respected, admired and took advice from.

Adi’s parents lived here in Massachusetts for many years, and it was during his visits to his parents, and his family here who are also good friends, including Oz and his wife Ann and his daughter Hila and her husband Naor, that I got to spend time with Adi. Over those visits, we spent time chatting and c… Read More »

What is your name?

What is your name?

Not necessarily your legal name, but your Hebrew name.

Does it matter and is it even important to have a Hebrew name, after all my legal name is good enough, why make things more confusing?

Yet the truth is, names matter, and Hebrew names certainly matter.

As a people, we are referred to with different names, sometimes we are called the children of Israel, referencing the fact that we are descendants of Jacob, who had his name changed to Israel, and sometimes we are referred to as Yehudim, Jews, or Yidden in Yiddish, which all come from the name Judah, one of the most powerful tribes, and the one who ended up ruling over the Kingdom of Judea, which included Jerusalem and its environs, and was led by … Read More »
