THE TEARS AT THE END OF ROSH HASHANAH

At the end of Rosh Hashanah, I went with my daughter to visit some nursing homes and people in their houses to blow the Shofar for those who couldn't make it to the Synagogue.

In one location, a nursing home, one of the nurses who loves when we come, asked us if she could join us as we blew the Shofar for residents.

As we blew the Shofar, tears filled her eyes, as she told us how overcome and how powerful this is for her each and every year.

We went to more homes to blow Shofar for people, and saw more tears, as people hugged their grandchildren and cried as they heard their Shofar.

The tear filled eyes of connection in multiple locations and appreciation for the simple yet powerful sounds of the Shofar, with their call to action and ho… Read More »

Tears, Fears, Hopes & Positivity as we approach a New Year

Several times over the last few days, I pulled up to the front door of people's homes to share some hand delivered Rosh Hashanah joy and homemade Honey Cake, and the recipients were overcome with emotions and started crying.

The visits have included deep conversations about life and the year that passed, the concerns for what Israel and the Jewish people are enduring, concerns for what is happening here, and also encouragement and hope for the upcoming year, which we know will G-d willing bring lots of new blessings.

From affixing Mezuzah's to planning a Bar or Bat Mitzvah, or planning a follow up visit to a home or their relatives, these visits have been an eye opener into how so many are feeling as we end this Jewish Calendar year of 57… Read More »

Morning Reflections 9/11/2025

Dear Friends,

Today on 9/11 we stood together in prayer at the Thursday morning Minyan.

We said the mourners Kaddish and prayers for the thousands of victims of the awful attacks, as people remembered co workers, friends and the fateful moments and day that it happened.

We mourned the terrible shocking political murder of Charlie Kirk yesterday which has shaken America, and if I may add, Israel also.

We prayed for people to have moral clarity and to learn to listen or be okay with political debates and difference of opinions, and to never ever celebrate murder.

We prayed for the welfare of Israel.... after the terrible tragedies of the last few days and the safe return of the hostages and for the safety and security… Read More »

700 Days & Yosef Chaim

Dear Friends,

700 days....

That is the number of days that the hostages are being hold for.

On Wednesday it was Yosef Chaim Ohana's birthday, and his father reached out to me to ask if our community can join many others around the world in praying for his son (Yosef Chaim Ben Miriam), on his birthday and this Shabbat, for his salvation from his Hamas captors, along with all of the other hostages.

His father suggested that being that this Shabbat is the anniversary of the namesake of Yosef Chaim, the famous sage, the Ben Ish Chai of Baghdad, it would be an auspicious time to pray for his wellbeing.

I decided to also share a little about this famous and fascinating  Sephardic sage in the email this week, to learn from his te… Read More »
