A Profound Message from Rachel Polin Goldberg the mother of Hersh

 

Dear Friends,

Can we be thankful when there is pain and challenges around us?

This week we have seen no shortage of dramatic events and also painful events, the Jewish New Year is coming, and our emotions are being stretched in every direction, and indeed this week's portion addresses the concept of thanksgiving, even when not everything around us is going well.

But to address this question, I would like to simply share a letter from Rachel Goldberg, Hersh's Mum, which we were given permission to share.

THE BOOK THAT WASN'T BURNED BY THE NAZI'S & THE NEW BAR MITZVAH BOY

20240909_170937.jpgThis week, I started learning with a few new Bar Mitzvah students, who are staring to prepare for their big day.

 One of the students who I have known for a while from Hebrew School came for his first one on one class, to finally begin the preparations for his big day. His grandfather, who was born in the DP Camps right after the war, to parents who both went through hell on earth, but managed to survive the Holocaust, was the one who brought his grandson to learn with me for this very first Bar Mitzvah lesson.
