Recently at our weekly Torah study class, one of the participants shared a few personal memories of what it was like to be a child during the Holocaust. One particular memory that stood out, was her memory as a four year old child of her joy and happiness when her cousin found a whole potato in a pile of garbage in the middle of their factory labor camp. Her cousin who was only a few years older than her, instantly cut up the potato into three pieces and gave one to herself, another cousin and kept one for herself.  It's a simple story, but it is very telling and powerful.

"In her 80+ years, my mother never missed celebrating Passover even in the most difficult and darkest years of the Soviet oppression, and that is why we made sure that my mother can join you here today to once again celebrate Passover". This was said by one of the family members of a participant at a Seder we held at a local Nursing Home this past weekend, along with multiple other seniors and their loved ones. It was a truly moving Seder to be with such a rich array of seniors with diverse backgrounds, histories and families, and it was beautiful to see everyone together around one Seder table celebrating the same age old meaningful traditions of Passover in such a joyful manner.

Camp Gan Israel of Sudbury now in its 5th year is now enrolling for our summer day camp which starts at the end of June. The Camp which is part of the largest and fastest growing network of Jewish day camps in the world, enjoys a well-earned reputation as a trendsetter with innovative ideas, creative programs and new activities. This past Sunday, the Rabbi's father, Mr. Arieh Freeman of London, UK, who is a part time Sofer (scribe), came on a visit to the Hebrew School where he showed the students how this art is done, how he writes Mezuzot, Tefillin and Torah scrolls, as well as other info about this art.  

Our guest spent time in each class, presenting the work of the scribe and showed us feathers, parchment for writing, as well as samples of new and old Mezuzot and Tefillin.

The Chabad Center of Sudbury extends its heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Dora Litvak and her daughter Galina, on the passing of their husband / father, Monya Litvak last weekend. Monya was a hard working immigrant from Ukraine who had witnessed the Nazi atrocities, but went on to raise his own family and eventually move to the USA.

Shiva services have taken place this week at their home in Framingham.

May they be comforted among the mourners of Zion & Jerusalem and only know of good health.
