Coronavirus Community Response from the Chabad Center of Sudbury

Tuesday, 31 March, 2020 - 11:17 am

We hope you are all doing well and handling all of the changes okay. In this email we would like to provide a short update to our response to the Coronavirus Pandemic and also to provide some updates as to what is happening at Chabad or through Chabad during these times.

Bright Notes

Since this challenge has started we have shifted our classes and events to an online virtual format. So far we have had three sessions with dozens of our Hebrew School Parents, multiple Classes which have been well attended, lots of individual meetings and learning via Zoom, and Pre Shabbat Kabbalat Shabbat Meetup & Prayer Services.

Community Help & Response

As a community we must be both responsible and ensure Social Distancing to protect the elderly and the vulnerable, but we must also be there to protect them and be supportive to each other in ways that work and are safe. Being alone in your home is not an easy thing in many practical ways, and also it can be very lonely and depressing.

To this end, we have been able to designate volunteers to work with elderly or homebound people to help them with shopping and other errands

1. If you are young and able bodied and are willing to help with shopping and deliveries for those who are confined to their home, please let us know.

2. If you are willing to be part of a group that will call and check in (from your own home) on people and try and strengthen community and help people overcome loneliness, please let us know.

3. If you know of someone who is vulnerable and may need help, please let us know if they consent or won't mind.

4. If you would like to schedule a phone call or online meetup with another person in the community just to chat, please let us know and we will make a match.

5. If you would like to be a part of a team of volunteers who will check in on people and the many in our community, just to touch base and see if there is anything that we can do as a community, please let us know.

6. Tech Support. If you need tech support to learn how to use Zoom, setup Online Shopping for Food etc and would like some help, we can have a volunteer call and guide you through the process.

If you would like help with this let us know and if you would like to help with this let us know.

Spiritual Response

At times like these when things are challenging, it is extra important to increase in our acts of spirituality and Mitzvot, and we encourage you to consider making the daily space in your life for some learning, some charity, and some prayer from the comfort of your own home and with your loved ones.

Please use this link to see a full section on our website with readings on the current crisis.

Want to talk or have Questions

If anyone would like to talk or has questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out and we can speak by phone or Zoom.

If you have further suggestions as to what we can do as a community and be there for each other please let us know. We look forward to continuing to work together with all of you to strengthen our community and each other, to be there for those in need, to inspire and teach, and to make sure we go through this challenge with as much strength and positivity as possible.

Shmurah Matzah

We have a supply of Hand Baked Shmurah Matzah from Israel that was packed and sealed well before the crisis and if you would like buy a box of 1lb we have a limited supply, or can gift you with a three Matzah Box. Please let us know.

Passover Seder Food to Go

If you are alone and would like some assistance in having a Traditional Tasty Passover Seder Meal delivered to your home, please let us know and we will work with a Kosher Caterer to provide this. Cost will not be an issue. If you would like to sponsor such a meal for an individual, please let us know.

Lost your Job?

If you recently were laid off due to the crisis and would like guidance as to how to proceed regarding benefits please let us know and we can help direct you to the right agencies or Jewish Organizations that can help you / your family further.

With best wishes for good health and success to everyone & G-d willing through our being there for each other and working together we will overcome this soon and come out stronger on the other side.
