Protests, Division & the 9th & 15th of Av

Demonstrations, mutual frustration, and lots of anxiety seem to have been at an all time high this week in Israel. Watching from afar, it has been painful to process and see the amount of discord and lack of understanding between different parts of the population.

I spoke to one couple in Israel, where each spouse has very strong views on the opposite side of the debate and they are navigating this debate together. Another relative I spoke to, was emphatic about the pain and frustration she has right now and described with strong feelings what she is dealing with.

Politics aside, in the week when we marked Tisha B'Av, the most painful day on the Jewish Calendar, and a day whose tragedies are associated with Sinat Ch… Read More »

The 5th Book

The Story of the 5th Book

Dear Friends,

This week we begin reading the 5th book of the Torah, Devarim or Deuteronomy. It is a book with a huge depth and richness as it tells us the story of the last thirty seven days of the life of Moses and what he chose to convey during those finals weeks of his life.

He walked them through the historic events that they had shared together, including the ups and the downs and everything in between, he encourages them to take stock and learn from what had happened, recognize and address their weak points, and do the same for the strong points.

He then moves… Read More »

From 5 to 95 Years Old, the Journey Continues

Camp finished at 3:30pm and being that the Shabbat party and singing was running late, most of the campers only exited the building at 3:35pm. Brimming with excitement after another week of camp, songs were still coming off their lips as the music played in the background, and they gave each other high fives and shared energetic Shabbat Shalom's to one another.

At 3:40pm as the last parent took their kids, I jumped into the car and headed to the Bridges Memory Care Facility in Sudbury and rushed into the meeting room, where about a dozen seniors and some family members were patiently waiting for me to join to begin the pre Shabbat program.

We started with some melodies, then some conversations and stories and then some mo… Read More »

What brought Unity to the Israeli Knesset?

You may have heard about the current discord in the Israeli Knesset and the many demonstrations on different sides of the issue. Yet this week, members of the coalition and opposition joined together and held a beautiful unity event in the Knesset to honor the work of Chabad.

In Memory of Lois Edwina Grayson

WhatsApp Image 2023-06-28 at 7.13.00 PM (1).jpegLast week, Shayna’s grandmother, Lois Edwina Grayson, and great grandmother to our children, passed away at her home in West Orange, New Jersey.

Shayna became Grandma’s first grandchild and made her into a grandmother, and was followed by many more.

Chana, became Grandma’s first great grandchild and made her into a great grandmother and was followed by many more.

For over twenty years Grandma has been a part of our family life, as we had countless visits and get togethers, spent many Thanksgiving Celebrations together in New Jersey, and of course we spent lots of time every summer with her in her home in Truro, Massachusetts.

Grandma was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and was predeceased by her hus… Read More »
