Celebrating a New Year in a Turbulent World

Apple & Honey large.jpgOver the last few years and especially over the last few months we have all been inundated with a never ending stream of negative news about turmoil in the world around us. Unnecessary wars in so many places, outbreaks of Ebola in Africa, and a wave of barbaric evil and bloody violence sweeping so many parts of the Middle East. The last few months in particular have been hurtful on a more personal level, as we watched Israel deal with a three month crisis that included the kidnapping and brutal murder of three teenagers and ended with eight weeks of war. In addition, we were all witness to an almost global outpouring of Anti-Semitism that was unprecedented in recent decades.

Some reflections on taking the Oath of Allegiance!

US Citizenship Pic.jpgYesterday at 1:05pm, along with 309 other people from 64 different countries, I took the Oath of Allegiance to the United States and formally became a citizen of the United States of America. It was an exciting moment and a milestone I am very grateful to have reached and accomplished.  During the two hour wait to take the oath, I spent time chatting with the people to my left and right and learned about stories of survival from a Vietnam Boat refugee and chatted with people just seeking a better and freer life in a free and democratic USA.

Hebrew School Launches to a Great Start!

20140914_100702.jpgThis past Sunday dozens of returning and new students had their first day at the Chabad Hebrew School of Sudbury. As the returning students caught up with their friends, some of whom they hadn't seen the whole summer, many new students were being warmly welcomed into Hebrew School for the first time.

It was truly an exciting day to see so many young families and your children coming to learn at the Chabad Hebrew School which is now enrolling some 40 students. On the first day, students did some welcome crafts for Rosh Hashanah and began to get into the spirit of the holidays.

Pomegranates & Our Successes and Blessings

PomegranateOver the last ten days, the morning pace in my life has changed radically as we leave early to school each morning and fight Greater Boston’s grueling traffic snarls at the begging of the school year. It’s actually not just the commute that has changed, it’s also the new semester of teaching in school, and a busy September preparing for the High Holidays and the launching and restarting of various programs. Bottom line, life is pretty consuming and before we know it, another day has gone by and it’s already the end of another action packed week. Actually it is almost Rosh Hashanah once again and the end of another Jewish year.

The daily pressures of life, consumerism, new Apple IPhones and Watches, our careers and… Read More »
