Bertha Sher.pngOn behalf of the Chabad Center of Sudbury I would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family of Bertha Sher (Bunya Bas Bluma & Binyomin Z"L) who passed away at age 95 this past Shabbos. Bertha was someone I would visit on many occasions and I greatly enjoyed the time I spent with her as well as the insights that she would share with me.

Bertha deeply respected her own parents and a lot of her values and attachment to Judaism she attributed to them. Bertha described her father who refused to work on Shabbos and how he would often lose his job on Friday’s due to his refusal to work on Shabbos.

Bertha also told me that during those years they suffered from terrible poverty, but they weren’t the only ones and she described how people would knock on their doors asking for food to feed their children. No matter how little her parents had, they always gave away something, if it was food or a bit of money, no one was ever turned away anyone empty handed.

Bertha continued these traits in her own life throughout her 95 years, as she was both someone who was a deeply committed and very passionate Jew, who spoke a beautiful Yiddish and cared tremendously for her Yiddishkiet, and also someone who always thought about others.

While I only knew and visited Bertha for several years, Bertha made a deep impact on me, as I watched someone who didn’t always have it easy but would nevertheless go about her life with a great attitude no matter what stage of life she was in.

May her soul rest in its eternal resting place and continue to derive spiritual Nachas and happiness from her family continuing down the beautiful path that she worked so hard to preserve and show them.

Our condolences to her dear daughters, Denise Roditi & Barbra Sher, as well as two her dear son-in-laws, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The funeral was held today at the Chabad Center of Sudbury and the interment will take place at the Cedar Park Cemetery in Paramus NJ at noon on Tuesday.

Shiva will take place at Denise’s house at 18 August Drive, Framingham, MA on Wed & Thursday 3-5 and 7-9, Friday 2-4 and Sunday 1-4 and 7-9.

I never had the merit to meet her, but I was deeply touched by the stories you've related here. May her memory be for a blessing.
