Hebrew School Curriculum

 

All classes learn about all the Jewish holidays and begin their day with prayers

Book of Genesis (Beraishit) until Abraham & Sarah

- Make Torah booklet with different projects depicting each scene to bring home at the end of the year.

 

Jewish Themes including Honor Your Elders, Shabbat, Charity, and Jewish Holidays.

Special workbook with story and picture of each topic. 

 

Aleph Bet Train – Students learn and bring home another letter each week to add to their Alef Bet train.

 

1st

Torah Stories from the Book of Genesis

Discussing Abraham & Sarah until Joseph.

Students are illustrating a Torah Booklet to bring home at the end of the year.

Theme:  Shabbat & Marvelous Middos

1st semester: Students will be creating a Shabbat Box to take home, combining lessons, stories and prayers.

2nd semester: Marvelous Middos - a curriculum discussing moral and ethical behaviors according to the Torah (i.e. hospitality, Tzedakah, returning lost objects, etc.)

Aleph Bet -  Focusing on a letter a day, using  lots of review games and practicing writing the letter too.

Begin ALEPH  CHAMP

Reading tutors work privately with each student for 10 minutes a day (during class time) reviewing the Alef Bet and progressing to reading Hebrew as soon as the student is ready.

2nd

 

Introduction to the Book of Shmot, using a Torah workbook as a follow up to their interactive lesson.

 

Theme: The Jewish Home

Students are making an book focusing on a different rooms in the house and its appropriate mitzvah:

 Front Door -Mezuzah  

Dining room – Shabbat   

Kitchen – reciting blessings over food

Playroom - Sharing etc.

ALEPH CHAMP

Reading tutors work privately with each student for 10 minutes a day (during class time) reviewing the Alef Bet and progressing to reading Hebrew as soon as the student is ready.

3rd

 

Book of Genesis in depth using simple worksheets to follow their discussion.

 Torah! Mitzvot! Action! Is designed to cover the weeks Torah portion.

Torah – refers to the basic story line Mitzva – refers to a related mitzvah; Action – refers to a practical behavior modification gleaned from the lesson.

 

The Synagogue – exploring the different articles and customs in the synagogue including an in depth course on the Torah Scroll and a fun Synagogue Tour.

ALEPH CHAMPION

A color-coded reading system where each progresses at their own rate.

Reading tutors work privately with each student for 15 minutes a day.

Goal: to be a “Black Belt” and be able to read & write Hebrew perfectly

 

4th

 

Book of Bamidbar (Exodus) in depth using text for discussions.

 Torah! Mitzvot! Action! Is designed to cover the weekly Torah lesson.

Torah – refers to the basic story line Mitzva – refers to a related mitzvah; Action – refers to a practical behavior modification gleaned from the lesson.

 

Torahpedia – 22 Jewish concepts in alphabetical order are discussed in depth with a giant, fun workbook accompanying the lessons.

5th

Book of Prophets. (What happened after Moses???)

Torah! Mitzvot! Action! Is designed to cover the weeks Torah portion.

Torah – refers to the basic story line Mitzva – refers to a related mitzvah; Action – refers to a practical behavior modification gleaned from the lesson.

 

Jewish History: 

The Ashkenazi Jew & The Sephardi Jew 

Students study the different cultures of Jewish communities around the world and then create their own family tree.

Pirke Avot

  discussions on Jewish Ethics and morals.

Our Hebrew School uses the new, acclaimed Aleph Champ program to ensure that  your child will read fluently at the end of his/her Hebrew School experience.

HEBREW
Our students learn to read & write Hebrew. They gain confidence and familiarity with the Siddur-Hebrew Prayer Book.

TORAH
Study of the weekly Torah portion provides our students
with practical lessons that apply to our daily lives.

ISRAEL
Our students will attain an affection for our heritage and a
uniqueness of our homeland Israel.

JEWISH HISTORY
The students gain an appreciation of our heritage and culture that
has been preserved throughout the ages.

HOLIDAYS AND SHABBAT
Traditions and celebrations, exploring
the Jewish Holidays and Shabbat will provide a deeper
understanding for our students.

JEWISH VALUES
Beginning with the origins of the mitzvot,
stressing practical applications in our daily lives, our
